T o d a y 's O p t i o n s

Catterick has survived an Inspection. Soft ground there and
it's not a great card and I have cherry picked here. Lingfield has had its Grass races cancelled and they have been turned into All weather races now because of the weather. Some big complex difficult fields so very wary about the meeting today. No National Hunt work today. Not found anything I liked on tracks I dont like. Sandown is rough tonight. Its scrappy and small fields and not one I can do much with. I've done some work in every race and only followed angles and gone where they have led me. Looks a lot of small field tactical races.

Overall not that interested in a bet. Today has always been
a very insipid day. Scrappy low grade racing and dont feel I should be rummaging round for scraps with the second half
of the week looking richer in choice. Have a read but there
is nothing I am excited about today. Much better Thursday.

Not a classic by any means yesterday but it was never going
to be one. Ambitions were limited and I was quite happy to
see my best bet PANDORICA win even though he wasnt an
official bet. Just keeps us ticking over and showing my form is still very much on track as we negotiate this middle season.

C a t t e r i c k 2.40

9/4 Llewellyn, 9/2 Bay Of Fires, 11/2 Middleton Flyer
13/2 Northern Bolt, 7/1 Fol Hollow, Zomerlust, 8/1 Red Cape
20/1 Sophie´s Beau, 25/1 Keep Fighting, 50/1 Oakbrook
66/1 Little Thief, 100/1 China Excels.

* This is a 6f Selling race
* The following horses are too inexperienced
* CHINA EXCELS - LITTLE THIEF - KEEP FIGHTING
* SOPHIE´S BEAU lacks the class
* MIDDLETON FLYER is unsafe as a 3yo filly from 5f
* OAKBROOK - Shouldnt be able to cope
* BAY OF FIRES - Couldnt match him to a winner
* NORTHERN BOLT - Has a chance but just an average profile
* ZOMERLUST is 10 and lacks a recent race
* I wanted a run within 2 weeks for horses aged 9 +
* ZOMERLUST is a positive but his profile is unsafe
* RED CAPE could have done with a recent race too
* LLEWELLYN had an unsafe profile
* Cant rule him out but his absence hurts him
* Short of experience as well he is unsafe
* There was 1 winner like LLEWELLYN
* He came from a Class 3 handicap with 5 runs that year
* LLEWELLYN comes from a 6f Claimer with 4 runs
* That just means I cant match him well
* FOL HOLLOW - Respected but not totally convinced
* Ideally I wanted 5 runs this year and he has 4
* He comes out as well as anything else though
* FOL HOLLOW each way a luke warm suggestion

Selection

FOL HOLLOW 7/1

Each Way

C a t t e r i c k 3.10

2/1 Gowanharry, 100/30 Demora, 7/2 Blue Shoes
11/2 Laura´s Bairn, 8/1 Almond Branches, 12/1 Sunrise Dance.

Quiite a complicated 5f handicap. Looks to be three main
runners. I wasnt convinced by GOWANHARRY. Although
we have fillies winning with absences of over a month they
were more experienced and I wanted another run or two. I
get that with DEMORA another filly with an absence and
she came out best of all for me with BLUE SHOES hard to
judge. Horses as exposed as BLUE SHOES seem to require
at least 5 runs this season and she has had just 4 runs. She has a recent run which does help but overall following the numbers I just felt DEMORA came out better than the rest.

L i n g f i e l d 3.30

* Complicated small field 2m handicap
* COURTESY CALL - I'd like him a bit lighter raced
* As a 3yo from a 12f race I wanted under 13 runs not 14
* LEGEND ERRY didnt appeal either
* NATIVE COLONY - Unlikely to be fit enough
* TROVARE - Almost right. Would like another run
* ALFRAAMSEY - Best profiles

C a t t e r i c k 3.40

9/4 Elizabeth Coffee, 9/4 Private Story, 4/1 Tricksofthetrade 11/2 Eijaaz, 9/1 Zaplamation, 25/1 Dimashq, Escape Artist 33/1 Commander Veejay, 100/1 Kathindi.

This is a Claimer just short of 12f. The weights suggest it
may be won by ELIZABETH COFFEE but I have doubts.
My main problem is whether she will stay 12f especially
on soft. I opposed her two runs ago at Chester over 12f
for the same reasons and she did not look like she stayed
to me. Interesting that it takes almost exactly the same
ammount of time to run both distances at both tracks so
I still feel there are stamina issues to prove. I'm confused about PRIVATE STORY who is impossible to read. Not
sure how much ability he retains or how fit he is or how
he will handle softer ground. There are doubts on several
fronts today. It's through gritted teeth that EIJAAZ has
to be the selection each way but he is reliable and safer
even if he is old and is not the best horse on raw ability.

Selection - EIJAAZ 6/1 Each Way

L i n g f i e l d 5.30

3/1 Mitch Rapp, 4/1 Lord Of The Storm, 10/1 Land Hawk
10/1 Secret Era, 12/1 Jordaura, 14/1 Beat Up, 14/1 Breakheart 14/1 Formidable Guest, 14/1 Lytham, 16/1 Night Sky 20/1 Gallantry, 20/1 Jumeirah Liberty, 25/1 Irons On Fire.

I hate MITCH RAPP's profile in this 10f handicap.
He has just 1 run this year yet comes from 7f and
he just screamed to be opposed. The problem is it
is hard to find anything reliable or safe. Several of
these have outstanding chances on old form but do
not appeal on their recent form. Breakheart is an
example as he would be a certainty if coming back
to form which looks unlikely. I would select two.

* FORMIDABLE GUEST - Worth a bet at big price
* LORD OF THE STORM - Looks the most likely winner

S a n d o w n 5.55

This maiden requires a choice with limited evidence and two
promising horses that have similar claims. We can only guess and mine would be RED EXPLORER. Interesting M. Hills has only one ride today on this horse. He cost £130k and whilst these things are fickle his main opponent DOMINATE was only his trainers second string on his debut which puts me off a little. Weak circumstantial evidence but RED EXPLORER would be my choice is a nasty badly framed maiden race.

S a n d o w n 6.30

5/4 Picture Dealer, 4/1 Khubala, 5/1 Isola Verde
11/2 Lupo D´oro, 8/1 Heartsong, 20/1 Mister Musicmaster.

Six runner 3yo handicap over 5f. It doesnt get much messier. The Racing Post are strong on PICTURE DEALER which is quite understandable as he should have won last time. I looked at his profile. Its not dissimilar to KHUBALA's. I dont have a problem with either but it was the fillies with similar profiles rather than the males that did best and neither came out very well. ISOLA VERDE is very short of runs for a filly and she's not for me. It could be just smoke and mirrors but the better profiles came from the three more experienced horses.

Shortlist

MISTER MUSICMASTER
LUPO D´ORO
HEARTSONG

Selection

MISTER MUSICMASTER 5/1 Win Bet
LUPO D´ORO 10/1 Win Bet

S a n d o w n 7.00

7/4 Haatefina, 15/8 Law Enforcement, 6/1 Dance With Dragons
7/1 Benoni, 12/1 Northern Harbour, 14/1 Sakhee´s Ichigou
16/1 Tomway, 40/1 Luckster.

This is a 2yo maiden over 7f. History shows that whilst there are many fillies that win first time out in these races very few males do it and none have with as much weight as 8st 13lbs so I am going to oppose LAW ENFORCEMENT. Anyones guess as to which horse may take advantage. HAATEFINA looks a decent option. Slight reservation about the stable when there are stronger stables in the race but HAATEFINA is the choice.

S a n d o w n 7.30

This race is a nightmare and bailing out. I ran some profiles and shortlisted half the field. I dont like Masters Blazing and I wouldnt have selected Star Surprise or My Lord as these had raced only once in months. The others all had solid profiles.

S a n d o w n 8.00

7/2 Ace Of Valhalla, 4/1 Whipcrackaway, 9/2 Debating Society 5/1 Little Dutch Girl, 13/2 Maistro, 15/2 Exning Halt 10/1 Falcon´s Reign, 11/1 Sheila´s Buddy.

* This is a 3yo handicap over 10f
* ACE OF VALHALLA - 1 run this year and 93 days off
* Not a good profile and I couldnt match him to a winner
* I found a winner like him with 1 run but not more than 2
* MAISTRO - Not overkeen on him for similar reasons
* He also comes from a maiden with 1 run this season
* EXNING HALT - Beaten in a maiden after 5 runs
* I can find a maiden winner after 5 runs not one beaten
* FALCON´S REIGN - Too unorthodox
* SHEILA´S BUDDY - Looked at bit exposed to me

Shortlist

* WHIPCRACKAWAY - Enough to shortlist
* LITTLE DUTCH GIRL - Liked her profile
* DEBATING SOCIETY - Has to be considered

Selection

DEBATING SOCIETY Win Bet 5/ 2
LITTLE DUTCH GIRL Saver Bet 6/1

S a n d o w n 8.35

5/2 Cellist, 7/2 Dovils Date, 4/1 Byron Blue
6/1 April Ciel, 6/1 Bathwick Street, 12/1 Queen´s Star
16/1 Somemothersdohavem, 25/1 Stickleback.

* This is a 3yo handicap over 14f
* CELLIST - Clearly has problems but still has potential
* Winning a 12f maiden after 3 runs isnt the perfect profile
* Found 1 winner like him with less weight who didnt win last time
* CELLIST is an overall positive but not afraid to oppose him
* QUEEN´S STAR comes out badly
* STICKLEBACK is wrong
* SOMEMOTHERSDOHAVEM isnt running well enough
* APRIL CIEL won over 11f last time
* No horses won over 11f or shorter and won again
* DOVILS DATE - Neutral profile
* He won a 12f Conditions race last time
* The two horses doing that had a W 2 record
* Thats very good but both were different
* They had more backclass and less weight
* They had a more recent race and more runs that year
* Their profiles feel a lot safer than his
* I cant make him a negative as none like him tried
* Sceptical though as he has less in his favour than similar ones
* BATHWICK STREET - I wanted more backclass
* Especially for a horse that has 9 or more runs like him
* BYRON BLUE does have the best profile

Selection

BYRON BLUE 3/1 +
